Pedro Lopes attends the 8th edition of the Serial Killer Festival

On 24 September, Pedro Lopes was one of the guests on the panel ‘The Rise of the Showrunner Model in Europe and the European Showrunner Programme’ at the 8th edition of the Serial Killer Festival, which this year took place in the Czech Republic.

The Director General of Content for the SPTV group had the opportunity to share with everyone present how the showrunner model is reshaping European television, empowering writers and amplifying local stories for a global audience. "Day to day, a show runner makes all the important decisions about the series’ scripts, tone, attitude, look and direction", began the New York Times, quoting producer John Wells, adding that "a showrunner is both the author and the executive producer. They are the bridge between the writers and the production company or channel. They have the final say on the episodes. They must deliver not just a programme, but a programme that works. They are expected to approve department heads, guide directors, designers, editors and, most importantly, protect the vision of the story," said Pedro Lopes during his presentation.

Serial Killer TV Days is a conference for television and film professionals, journalists, and academics. It offers an overview and reflection on European and global television trends, news about foreign and national series, insights and inspiring talks from successful creators, and know-how from television representatives and key market players.
