PASSPORT selected for Madrid Film Awards

The short film PASSPORT, produced by SPi, has been selected for the Madrid Film Awards – MADFA® and remains in competition for a nomination in the Best Narrative Short Film (Fiction) category. The nominees will be announced next March and, even at this stage, some of the projects will be screened during the festival. PASSPORT is already on the official list for this festival and has been awarded the official MADFA laurel.

Founded in 2019, the Madrid Film Awards (MADFA®) is one of the most prestigious and diverse international film festivals in Spain and Europe. Based in Madrid, the festival receives entries from more than 120 countries each year, has the Golden Crown as its official trophy and is an officially recognised competition by IMDb.

PASSPORT tells the story of a young Portuguese woman who is detained for questioning upon arrival in the US. What seemed like routine bureaucracy turns into a silent and oppressive trial, where individual freedoms are replaced by moral condemnation, which would be absurd were it not for the frightening similarities with our current world. Directed by Tiago Pimentel and written by Lia Fietz, who also plays the character Ana, the cast of this short film also includes actors Eric Newman, Daniel Silva, Douglas Mendes, and Faed Breno. Bruno José, Pedro Lopes, and João Maia Abreu were the executive producers.
