SPi Co-Produces TV Brasil’s First Original Telenovela
SPi will take part in the co-production of VAMBORA, the first original telenovela commissioned by TV Brasil, in a project developed in partnership with Brazilian production company Kromaki. This marks the first time a Portuguese production company has participated in the creation of a fiction work developed from the ground up for Brazil’s public television network.
Comprising 30 episodes of 52 minutes each, the production will be filmed between Salvador, in Bahia, and Cascais, Portugal, embracing a narrative that bridges geographies, cultures and family contexts across the two countries.
The original story is written by Daniel Berlinsky, Fabrício Santiago and Chico Amorim, in collaboration with Ceci Alves and Cecília Giannetti, based on a premise by Pedro Lopes and Alexandre Castro. The plot follows Aline Vasconcelos, a lawyer in Salvador, whose life is turned upside down when she discovers that the man she has always considered her father may not be her biological parent. This revelation triggers an emotional and geographical journey between Brazil and Portugal, marked by family conflicts, moral dilemmas and complex emotional relationships.
The cast will bring together Brazilian and Portuguese actors, integrating different linguistic and cultural registers. Among the central characters are Aline, Lucília, Davi, Rosa, JP and João Manoel.
Within the scope of the production, SPi assumes a significant role as co-producer, with part of the filming scheduled to take place at its studios. The company thus strengthens its presence in international-scale projects and consolidates audiovisual cooperation between Portugal and Brazil.
João Maia Abreu, Executive Director of International Business and Co-Productions, underlined the strategic relevance of the initiative: “It is with great pride that SPi joins the co-production of VAMBORA, TV Brasil’s first original telenovela, alongside our Brazilian partners at Kromaki.”
He adds that the project represents “an unprecedented moment,” as it is the first participation of a Portuguese production company in a fiction work developed from scratch for that broadcaster. “The selection of VAMBORA reinforces the historical significance and responsibility of this Luso-Brazilian co-production, bringing together talent, creative vision and a shared language to build a narrative set between Brazil and Portugal,” he states.
According to João Maia Abreu, the co-production also constitutes “a strategic step in SPi’s international positioning,” contributing to strengthening audiovisual collaboration between the two countries and reinforcing the company’s presence in fiction projects with global ambition.
