COLD HAVEN nominated for the Rockie Awards in Canada
The Portuguese series COLD HAVEN has been nominated for the prestigious Rockie Awards in the Drama Series: Non-English Language category, further cementing the presence of Portuguese productions on the international stage.
Held as part of the Banff World Media Festival in Canada, the awards recognise excellence in television and digital content on a global scale each year. Established in 1979, they are widely recognised as one of the most important awards in the audiovisual industry. This year’s ceremony will take place on 16 June at 6.00 pm (MT) / 8.00 pm (ET).
According to João Maia Abreu, Executive Director of International Business and Co-productions at SPi, “we are extremely proud to see COLD HAVEN nominated for the Rockie Awards. The nomination in the Drama Series: Non-English Language category, which recognises outstanding international series, places the production among some of the leading global projects, assessed by an international jury of experts. This recognition reinforces our belief that authentic, locally rooted stories can resonate globally. And that Coproductions are the way forward in our business.”
Produced by SPi, in co-production with the Icelandic company Glassriver, and filmed in Portugal and Iceland, COLD HAVEN marks the first co-production between the two countries, blending Nordic noir with influences from southern Europe. This is a psychological thriller that follows the investigation into the violent death of a woman on a remote island in Iceland, revealing deep-seated secrets and tensions within an isolated community.
The eight-episode series, available on RTP Play, features an international cast, starring Catarina Rebelo and Maria João Bastos, and also includes actors Kristín Þóra Haraldsdóttir, Viktor Benóný Benediktsson, Ivo Canelas, Cleia Almeida and Rui Morisson. It was created by Filipa Poppe, Joana Andrade and Sveinbjörn I. Baldvinsson.
