COLD HAVEN screened at Berlinale Series Market Selects 2026
The first episode of COLD HAVEN aired yesterday, 16 February, at the Berlinale Series Market Selects, part of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival. Representing SPi were João Maia Abreu, Executive Director of International Business and Co-productions, Pedro Lopes, General Director of Content, and José Fragoso, Director of Programmes at RTP, who attended the screening and promotional initiatives alongside international industry professionals.
For João Maia Abreu, attending the event represents a particularly significant moment for national production: "Being able to be in Berlin and present COLD HAVEN during the Berlinale, having been selected by Series Market itself to show the world an SPi production, is hugely important. This milestone allows us to cross borders and highlight the value of co-productions, demonstrating the success and recognition of this partnership between Portugal and Iceland. It is a source of pride for fiction produced in Portugal and paves the way for the series to circulate internationally." The presence of COLD HAVEN at the Berlin Festival thus reinforces SPi's position in the international production landscape and contributes to consolidating the visibility of Portuguese fiction in strategic markets.
This series, currently airing on RTP, is a co-production between SPi, Glassriver and the state channel. It is a Portuguese-Icelandic crime thriller that follows the investigation into the death of a Portuguese woman in a small coastal town (on the island of Vestmannaeyjar) in Iceland. Written by Filipa Poppe, Joana Andrade and Sveinbjörn I. Baldvinsson, and directed by Arnór Pálmi Arnarsson and Tiago Alvarez Marques, the series features Maria João Bastos, Catarina Rebelo and Ivo Canelas in the main cast.
