GLÓRIA arrives at RTP

GLÓRIA, Netflix's first Portuguese series, premiered on 21 August on RTP1. With 10 episodes, the series will be broadcast from Monday to Friday at 22:30pm. The preview of each episode is available from 12pm on RTP Play.

Written by Pedro Lopes and directed by Tiago Guedes, this historical thriller follows João Vidal (performed by Miguel Nunes), an engineer with family ties to the Estado Novo, who is recruited by the KGB - the secret services of the Soviet Union - and goes to work on RARET, the relay office of Radio Free Europe, where he finds himself involved in the webs of the spy game. His main mission: to prevent Western propaganda from being broadcast to the Eastern bloc.

Set in Portugal in the 1960s, the series shows how Glória, a small village in Ribatejo, became, during the last years of Salazar's dictatorship, an unlikely stage in the Cold War, where American and Soviet forces fought through dangerous sabotage tactics to gain control of Europe.

Starring Miguel Nunes, the cast is composed by Afonso Pimentel, Adriano Luz, Maria João Pinho, Joana Ribeiro, Carolina Amaral, Albano Jerónimo, Marcello Urgeghe, Sandra Faleiro, Carloto Cotta, Inês Castel-Branco, Rafael Morais, Leonor Silveira, Matt Rippy, Stephanie Vogt, Jimmy Taenaka, Ana Neborac and Augusto Madeira, among others.

GLÓRIA premiered on Netflix on 5 November 2021. The year after, it was awarded Best Series or Telefilm at the Sophia Awards 2021, given by the Portuguese Film Academy, and Best Fiction Project at the Golden Globes 2021.
